Cardinal Gibbons School was opened in 1963 and scheduled to close in 2010.
Mascot: Crusaders

Alumni memories: Beautiful Catholic high school on grounds of St. Mary Industrial School where Babe Ruth spent 12 years of his childhood and learned to play baseball. The school was the most diverse school in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and was always very competitive in all sports, especially basketball. Some of the teachers had worked there for over forty years. Many alumni found their way back to teach and coach. It was a special school, more like a family.
In 1961, the Peary Pipe Band was the only high school bagpipe band in Maryland. When Peary closed in 1984, the band continued it's proud tradition at Rockville High School.
The school sat vacant and deteriorating for 15 years until the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy moved in and restored the buildings. The Academy and the Peary Alumni Association have worked closely together to maintain the spirit of Peary High School in the community. They worked jointly in 2000 on the Robert E. Peary Community Homecoming 2000. The 3-day event was highlighted by the rededication of the bell tower as well as replacement of the bell and memorial plaques.
