St. Hedwig High School was associated with St. Hedwig Catholic Church which was founded in 1903 in the Polish section of Detroit, Michigan, where many auto workers lived during Henry Ford's auto making revolution. After graduating may thousands of students, the high school was closed in 1990; the elementary school was closed in 1995.

The three St. Hedwig school buildings are currently being used by the Detroit Board of Education to house the "Academy of the Americas", where all students receive their education in both English and Spanish, reflecting the heavy Hispanic influence emerging in the neighborhood.
